Assembly was a bit tricky, the claws and arms are separate pieces and the sockets for the claws are shallow. After assembly I primed the mini white and mounted it on a temporary base. The flames got a base-coat of pale yellow and all the armor a black base-coat. Looking back at it, painting the arms separately would have been a lot easier. :-) To get a white hot effect I washed the flames quite heavy with white and then started to blend them back to yellow. I use the layering technique for blending, painting several semi-transparent layers of increasing darker of lighter color on top of each other. In this case from white to yellow. I wanted a warm metallic color for the armor so I mixed chestnut brown ink with silver and got pink! I should have known. :-) The flames are blended further to orange and red on the tips of the flames. I left to most of the flames quite light to get a "white hot", "magical" look. The armor color was corrected by painting over it with the chestnut ink and washing it with a black wash to bring out the engraved lines more. I thought about getting a flame effect in the lines, but they are very fine and I can't paint well enough to pull that of. The claws and the edges of the armor got a blue steel color to get a nice contrast. The lava base was made with small stones and self hardening clay. It was then primed white and painted with a very bright red (folk-art lipstick red). The stones were then heavily dry-brushed with black to get a lava effect. After the mini was painted it was mounted on the base and the join covered with putty and painted.
